The Great Flamingo Hunt - PDEC Wk #33

Happy Friday Crafters,

I hope everyone has had a terrific week.  I am away on vacation ... yeah!  Sad this is our last day to play, but we have had a relaxing time at the lake.  Will get back to the normal routine well rested.  Are you ready for another Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge?  Well, I sure am.  I have missed my craft room, so here goes ...

The question this week is "How do Flamingos get so pretty in Pink?"  Well, I did a bit of research.  The pink color comes from aqueous bacteria and beta carotene that is obtained from their food supply.  Flamingos eat 'blue algae' and shrimp.  The mates are picked by their color.  The darker the pink the more healthy the flamingo, supposedly.

Pink is a wonderful color.  Pink happens to be one of my favorite colors.  I love all shades of pink and can be found to wear them often.  I even have pink clogs!  For women pink is a 'power' color.  Think of all the warriors who have bravely fought breast cancer and many other types of cancer.   Reese Witherspoon comes to mind when I think of pink.  Her role as Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde" was shaded with pink throughout.  I love that movie.  So the challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges this week is to create a Flamingo or pink project

Even though I am a pink person by nature, I chose to take this in a different direction ... I hope Janis loves the irony of this project.  I chose to make Crocs dressing up in pink (as camo) to see if they could fit in to the Flamingo crowd.  Crocs, or in the case of the US, Gators are the biggest predator of Flamingos.  So, on to the 'Great Flamingo Hunt.'

Aren't these two Crocs just a hoot!!!  I think this is just too funny!  Hope you had a great LOL time with this one.
Here is the recipe:
Tag size:  4.5"
Tag:  ELEGANT EDGES, pg 46, Heart2-s, cut @ 4.5" using Oblong and Shadow features.
Croc1:  CROCS RULE, Swim, cut @ 2.5" with all layers
Croc2:  CROCS RULE, SwimSuit, cut @ 2.5" with all layers
Sentiment tag:  ELEGANT EDGES, pg 33, Doily-s, cut @ 1.8" using Oblong feature.
Cardstock:  The Paper Company (White, Pink and Hunter Green) and Bazzill Basics Paper (Watermelon)
Patterned Paper:  DCWV (Spring Fling and Summer Days Combo Stack)
Color Medium:  Sukara (White Jelly Roll pen)

2012 Olympics Mania! - FCCB#124

Happy Monday Crafters,

Did you have a great weekend?  I sure did.  I am vacationing at the lake.  We had a great "Sister's Reunion" yesterday with my mom's sisters.  It was great getting together and celebrating family.  I will be enjoying good books, nice swims and great atmosphere at the lake.  Hope you have a spectacular week planned.

How about those 2012 Olympics?  I was on the edge of my seat watching the Beach Volleyball this year.  And how about our Gymnastics darlings?  I was so proud of all of them.  Can't leave out the Swim Team either.  The infectious laugh of Missy Franklin was such a delight this year.  Our hometown (well, I am claiming Granbury even if it is more than 50 miles away) cutie, Dana Vollmer, was back for another Gold metal moment.

In keeping with the Olympics The Fantabulous Cricut is celebrating the 2012 Olympics and our very own 'Olympic Team'!  Our goal this week was to make a project with a sports theme.   So, get out your tools and make your very own 'Gold Metal' project.  Who knows you might strike 'Gold' (or maybe a super prize and recognition) as one of the FCCB Top Five!!!

Here is my Olympic offering:
Here is the recipe;
Card size:  A2 (4.25" x 5.5")
  • Orange mat cut to 4" x 5.25" and cut diagonally to make 2 triangles.
  • Blue mat cut to 4" x 5.25"
Croc:  CROCS RULE, Swim cut @ 3.5" + all layers.
Cardstock:  The Paper Company (White, Orange and Hunter Green)
Patterned Paper:  DCWV (Spring Fling and Summer Days Combo Stack)
Accents:  JoAnn's (Mini Star Brads in Citrus and Patriotic) DCWV (Spring Fling and Summer Days Combo Stack - sayings and stars fussy cut)
Color Medium:  Sukara (White Jelly Roll Pen)
Adhesives:  Scotch (ATG and foam tape) and EKSuccess (Zig 2 Way Glue Pen Fine Tip)

Now it is your turn to make an Olympic or sports themed project.  Remember, to check out all of my wonderful design team sister's blogs for their projects, and give them some Gold Metal Comment Love

Just a little doodle before the toodles and happy crafting,

Around the Farm - PDEC Wk#32

Hello Crafters,

How has your week gone?  It has been a busy one for me.  Getting ready for vacation.  Going to the lake for a nice relaxing week.  There will be a big party on Sunday for the "Sister's Reunion" for my Mom and her sisters.  There will be six sisters in attendance and many cousins, nieces and maybe a few nephews.  It is a fun time.  August is a special month for us.  There will be at least four birthday girls there.  Some of the nieces and cousins have August birthdays too, just don't know which will be in attendance.  Too much fun!!!  Birthday wishes all around.  Well, let's get on to the project of the week for Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges.

This week at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges our challenge was to create a project from "Around the Farm".  Well, I have been around several farms.  My Nannie had cows and chickens.  During war time she sold her eggs to the local market.  My mom grew up with fresh milk, straight from the cow.  I am not fond of fresh milk ... don't like the floaties ... eeeeewwwwwww!  But fresh milk does make good butter.  Now mind you that my grandmother had nine children ... yes, you read right that is NINE!!!  With all those names to remember she made it easy on herself and named the cows for her girls.  Can you imagine you mother running down a list of names and forget and call you the same as the cow?  Well, naming her cows the same as her girls took care of that problem ... heehee!!  My mother also had a pet chicken that followed her everywhere.  Around that farm you could not get too attached to anything as it may wind up as dinner!!

My ex-husband, Brad and I raised our own beef and pork.  It was tons of work but sure good eats.  Did you know that a single pig will not eat as well as two pigs?  They like a little competition.  We did not name our pigs as I did not want to be eating 'Gracey or Ellie'.  Well, here is my little project for this week's challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges.
Aren't these little pigs cute?  I sure think so.  Look at those curly tails.  Here are is recipe:
Tag size:  4.5"
Tag:  ELEGANT EDGES, pg 46, Heart2-s, cut @ 4.5" using Oblong and Shadow features.
Barn:  CREATE A CRITTER, pg 60, Cow + Milk cut @ 1.7" using Accessory feature.
Grass:  STRAIGHT FROM THE NEST, pg 41, Grass-s cut @ 1.8" and 0.4"
Pigs:  YEE-HAW Lite, pg 2, 7th image, Pig cut @ 1".  Used the Flip Function on one pig.
Cardstock:  The Paper Company (White, Black and Burgundy), Recollections (Sage), SEI (Chick-a-dee assortment - peach is flipside of Tiny Bubbles)
Patterned Paper:  Colorbok (Neutrals Pack - brown chevron), DCWV (Spring Fling & Summer Days Combo Stack - green spots) and SEI (Chick-a-dee Assortment pack - Tiny Bubbles and Birdies Buddies flip side)
Color Medium:  Sukara (White Jelly Roll pen)
Adhesives:  Scotch (ATG and foam tape) and EKSuccess (Zig 2 Way Glue Pen Fine Tip)

Now it is your turn!!!  With all the inspiration of my design team sisters you are sure to come up with a wonderfully clever project.  I know PDEC has some terrifically talented followers.  We, the design team love to look at your creations too.  So, stop by PDEC and enter your latest 'Farm' creation.

Set Sail - FCCB #123

Happy Monday Bloggers,

Hope you had a fun, relaxing weekend!  I bet some of you were in or on the water this weekend.  I will be next week for the whole week ... more on that later.

This week @ Fantabulous Cricut Challenge (FCCB) our theme was "Jump In and Cool Off!"  The weather has been fabulous for 'jumping in and cooling off'.  We were to create a project with a water theme (pool, beach, water park, etc.)  I chose to go with sailing.  On Lake Conroe we don't see a lot of sailboats, but there are a few.  I remember sailing with one of my cousins on Lake LBJ one summer.  He was very adept at  sailing and it was loads of fun, although I do enjoy a faster ride most of the time.  Give me a boat with a big motor and I am ready to play.   Well, back to my project.  Here is the card I made.

Recipe:
Size:  A2 (4.25" x 5.5")
         Mat is cut @ 4" x 5.25"
Sailboat:  WALL DECOR & MORE, pg 59, Sail-s cut @ 3.5"
Sailboat with waves:  WALL DECOR & MORE, pg 59, Sail cut @ 3.5"
Set Sail:  WALL DECOR & MORE, pg 59, Sail + Sail-s cut @ 1" Real Dial Size using Phrase feature
Cardstock:  The Paper Company (White and Turquoise) and Bazzill Basics (Denim)
Patterned Paper:  NRN Designs (Beneath the Ice)  This is about seven years old.
Ink:  Colorbox (Blue Iris Fluid Chalk Ink)
Accent:  JoAnn's (Opal Glitter Glue)
Adhesives:  Scotch (ATG) and EK Success (Zig 2 Way Glue Pen Fine Tip)

Usually the Sailboat with waves cut is put on the top, but I chose to put it the other way.  I wanted the wave effect to show more like real life than being swirls on the sail and as waves.  I am really pleased with the effect for this project.

Pop on over to FCCB and check out the creations of our marvelous design team.  Don't forget to stop by each of their sights and give them some comment {LOVE}!

Toodles and Happy Crafting,
Belinda

p.s.  I almost forgot.  Beginning August 11 through 18, I will be vacationing with my mom and sister near the Houston area.  We are excited to be going back to the lake again this year.  Mom and Bev enjoy fishing off our balcony ... yes, you read that right.  Our balcony hangs right over the lake and allows them to fish without getting a boat.  We also feed the ducks each morning and evening.  It is very relaxing to be out there.  Happy Sailing everyone!

"What's your NickName?" - PDEC Wk 31

Hello Bloggers,

It is time for another installment in the Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge.  This week we are celebrating Nicknames and our theme is Baby Cakes [Baby Cakes is Bonnie's (Janis' daughter) nickname].  Create a project with cupcakes or a baby project.  I had a ton of ideas running through my mind this past week.  I have a boat-load of nicknames and any one of them could be depicted with images, but I stuck to our theme.

Here is a list of my nicknames, or at least the ones I could remember.
  1. Biendy or Bindy - my family calls me this a lot.
  2. Bear-Belinda - Mom calls me this when she is going through her list of names (i.e. Belinda, Beverly, Don, Shortie, etc.)  Beverly's name is 'Bel-Beverly'.
  3. Deanie-Weenie - I was called this in high school and at my first job.  My middle name is Dean (after my grandmother Junie Dean) and I used this name in Jr. High and High school.  Since I am very short (5'2") the Weenie was added.  Hooter, yes that is his nickname, called me this at work all the time.
  4. "B" - When I graduated to office work instead of the factory floor I was called "B" a lot.  I guess that got that because I signed my name that way most of the time on process orders.
  5. Blin - my friend Melissa called me this.  She really is the only one.
  6. Banana - the little boy next door to us could not say Belinda.  I don't know where he got Banana.

It was fun remembering those nicknames.  Thanks Janis for a creative way to chronicle 2012.  I chose to make a quasi baby project.  When I was born one of my relatives gave me a White Bear.  He was affectionately named "Whitey."  I still have him to this day.  He has a place of honor on (not in) my hope chest at the end of my bed.  Whitey has been ripped and had 'surgery' many times.  He is in relatively good condition for being 55 years old and wagged around by active children.  He was dressed along with my dolls and played with for many years.  I was appropriate to put him on my tag chronicling my nicknames and being a 'baby' project.  Without further ado here is "Whitey's" remembrance.

Now here is the recipe for my project.
Size:  4.5" tag
Tag:  ELEGANT EDGES, pg 46, Heart2-s, cut @ 4.5" using the Oblong and Shadow features.
Bear:  GIVE A HOOT, pg 32, Bear + all layers, cut @ 3.2"; also used Shadow feature.
Letters:  POOH FONT SET, various pages, letters, cut @ 0.8" using the Marker and Marker Shadow features.
Cardstock:  The Paper Company (White, Black, Light Gray and Pink)
Patterned Cardstock:  SEI [Chicky's friends (back) Chick-a-dee Assortment pack]
Ink:  Colorbox (Charcoal Chalk Ink Cat's Eye)
Adhesives:  Scotch (ATG and Foam Tape) and EKSuccess (Zig 2 Way glue Pen Fine Tip)

To show the layers and addition of foam tape.

This was a quick and easy project.  That is usually the way when I have an idea in my head and the colors go together quickly. Can't go wrong with pink, white and gray.  Now, it is your turn to make a baby or cupcake project.  Before I forget ... we have Prizes!!!
